Trap Placement

Trap Placement

Placing your Mosquito Magnet correctly is critical to how well it performs. When positioned properly, mosquitoes will be drawn to the trap instead of to you. Follow the simple tips below and start enjoying your backyard again.

Trap Placement Tips

  1. Find out where mosquitoes are breeding. The trap must be positioned between the breeding areas such as standing water or dense bushes and the areas where people spend time, like a patio or deck. This way the trap intercepts mosquitoes before they reach you.

  2. Keep the trap away from people areas. Place it as close as possible to the breeding area and as far as possible from human activity. Typically, 30 to 40 feet away from where people sit is enough.

  3. Place the trap upwind from the breeding area. Mosquitoes fly upwind when looking for a meal. Once a female mosquito has fed and its weight doubles, it floats back downwind to rest. Positioning the trap upwind means you catch them as they come searching.

  4. Place the trap in an open area. CO2 is heavier than air and stays close to the ground. Mosquitoes follow the CO2 plume to the trap. If the trap is surrounded by tall grass or obstacles, the plume will be blocked and mosquitoes will not find it.

  5. Place the trap in the shade. Mosquitoes avoid direct sunlight and heat. They come out of their resting spots as the sun sets and temperatures cool down.
